This article develops a comprehensive scientific and methodological approach to formulating, adapting, and improving corporate strategies for renewable energy sources (RES) enterprises operating amid extreme volatility driven by ongoing military conflict and profound global energy transitions. The research rigorously integrates multiple strategic frameworks, including an extended PESTEL analysis, an adapted Porter’s Five Forces model, a resource-based view (VRIO framework), the Ansoff growth matrix, and dynamic scenario modeling. The study identifies a fundamental “strategic paradox” within the Ukrainian national energy market: the simultaneous existence of hyper-ambitious long-term developmental goals (National Energy Strategy up to 2050 targeting transformation into Europe’s primary green energy hub with up to 140 GW of wind and 94 GW of solar capacity, requiring approximately $383 billion in investments) and critical, existential short-term risks stemming from systematic kinetic destruction of power infrastructure and high macroeconomic instability. Through advanced dynamic scenario analysis, the research substantiates the phenomenon of “strategic advantage inversion.” This paradigm shift reveals that traditional competitive strengths— such as massive economies of scale, heavy capital concentration, and highly centralized generating assets—rapidly morph into critical operational and financial vulnerabilities in prolonged conflict scenarios. Conversely, previously niche attributes such as deep technological expertise in microgrids and distributed generation, organizational agility, and the deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are emerging as mission-critical survival factors. The study demonstrates the inherent inefficiency of traditional, rigid, deterministic strategic planning models and advocates a paradigm shift toward the “portfolio of strategic options” concept, rooted in real options theory. This approach operationalizes strategic flexibility and corporate antifragility, enabling energy firms to initiate multiple low-sunk-cost strategic pathways that can be dynamically scaled, paused, or abandoned as scenarios unfold. The paper provides differentiated actionable recommendations tailored to three empirically identified clusters of RES enterprises: “Strategic Leaders,” “Stabilizers,” and “Outsiders.” For market leaders, recommendations emphasize deployment of novel Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) B2B business models, financial securitization of corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) portfolios, and rapid geographic asset diversification paired with industrial-scale BESS. For international stabilizers, the focus is on creating strategic joint ventures with local leaders, targeting niche fast-payback infrastructure projects, and ensuring alignment with international war-risk insurance programs (MIGA and DFC). For outsiders, survival strategies dictate urgent asset recovery through equity partnerships and pilot transition toward free-market trading. Finally, the study synthesizes systemic recommendations for macro-level state regulation to address critical market gaps through standardized Contracts for Difference (CfD), long-term capacity reserve auctions, and innovative blended-finance architectures designed to catalyze post-war green reconstruction and ensure the long-term resilience of the national grid.
