This article presents the results of a comprehensive study on the geospatial development of the city of Odesa, focusing specifically on the transformation of its street and square structure within the context of public spaces and transport infrastructure. The study analyzes historical stages of urban space formation – from the period of the Ottoman settlement of Khadjibey, through the era of imperial regular planning, to contemporary urban development trends. Key problems of the current urban environment in Odesa are identified, including a significant imbalance between residential and recreational functions, insufficient pedestrian routes, chaotic development of the coastal zone, transport overload, and degradation of green areas, all of which negatively affect residents’ quality of life and the city’s ecological condition. To address these challenges, a range of strategic approaches and practical solutions are proposed, such as the creation of a continuous pedestrian corridor, reorganization of Taras Shevchenko Park into a transit space, implementation of the «green mobility» concept along the French Boulevard, and the establishment of a dedicated recreational regime for the coastal strip of the city. Additionally, a comparative analysis of international best practices from partner cities – Paris, Copenhagen, and New York – was conducted. This enabled the identification of the most effective tools and approaches for adapting sustainable urban solutions to Odesa’s local context. The findings and recommendations of this research can serve as a valuable foundation for developing an integrated spatial development strategy for Odesa that considers ecological, social, and economic factors. This is especially crucial considering the city’s post-war recovery challenges and ensuring its sustainable development in the future.
