The article examines the theoretical foundations and key directions of digital transformation of business ecosystems under global challenges driven by accelerated digitalization, growing market complexity, and increasing environmental uncertainty. The purpose of the study is to provide a theoretical justification and systematization of the mechanisms through which digital business ecosystems function as instruments of economic value creation. The research is based on the application of systemic and structural-logical analysis, comparative analysis, synthesis of contemporary scientific approaches, and conceptual modeling. The study demonstrates that digital business ecosystems represent a new organizational form of economic activity built on platform-based architectures, network effects, data integration, and cross-sector interaction. It is shown that ecosystems create value in both horizontal and vertical dimensions by consolidating heterogeneous customer groups and strengthening positions at critical control points along customer journeys in B2C and B2B markets. Attention is paid to the limitations of first-generation ecosystems (Ecosystem 1.0), including fragmentation, limited scalability, and insufficient organizational and governance readiness. Based on the generalization of these limitations, the article substantiates a conceptual transition to Ecosystem 2.0, emphasizing strategic mapping of control points, targeted development of digital capabilities, and the design of an effective governance architecture for multi-actor coordination. The scientific novelty lies in integrating value-creation mechanisms with ecosystem governance logic, enabling a more comprehensive understanding of digital ecosystem transformation under global disruptions. The practical significance of the results consists in their applicability for the development of ecosystem strategies and platform-based business models by firms.
