This article is devoted to the study of economic activity in rural areas of the Zakarpattia region in the context of current crisis challenges: economic instability, the consequences of the pandemic, and the full-scale war. The content of the category “economic activity of entrepreneurship” is clarified as the ability of economic entities to adapt dynamically to changes in the external environment, thereby ensuring growth in activity, employment, and investment. Based on the generalization of scientific approaches and the use of methods of analysis, synthesis, statistical, and graphical analysis, the role of rural entrepreneurship in the diversification of the local economy, through the development of tourism, service activities, and renewable energy, has been revealed. Spatial analysis of tourist flows enabled ranking the region’s territorial communities by tourist flow levels and identifying territories with the most significant potential for rural tourism. The article systematizes the conditions and determinants of entrepreneurship development in rural areas (regulatory, economic, socio-cultural, and regional), which made it possible to identify the main barriers: low incomes and savings of the population, limited access to capital, weak infrastructure, a high level of bureaucratization of procedures, and migration of the educated population. Based on the dynamics of gross value added, output, exports, the number of enterprises, and employment in 2013-2022, the article shows contradictory trends in the economic activity of rural entrepreneurship: the preservation of the role of the agricultural sector, a simultaneous reduction in employment, and persistent sensitivity to external shocks. The impact of business relocation during the war and the spread of digital tools (online services, e-commerce) on the renewal of the entrepreneurial environment is emphasized. It is argued that realizing the potential of rural entrepreneurship in the region requires targeted state and regional policies to improve the investment climate, introduce tax incentives, expand access to credit, develop processing infrastructure and local value chains, invest in human capital, and digitalize the agricultural sector.
