The sustainable development of Ukrainian universities amidst the Russia-Ukraine war is critically important to ensuring the continuity of the educational process, preserving scientific potential, and adapting higher education institutions to contemporary challenges. The ongoing war has significantly impacted higher education institutions, leading to the physical relocation of universities, the destruction of infrastructure, and the displacement of both academic staff and students. One of the significant challenges facing the higher education system is the potential merger of displaced universities with other institutions as mandated by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Such measures may have several negative consequences, including a decline in the quality of educational programs and the fragmentation of established research schools. In this context, it is crucial to investigate sustainable development scenarios that incorporate international experience while preserving the identity of relocated institutions and their integration into the global educational space. The occupation of significant territories in eastern and southern Ukraine by Russian forces has forced numerous universities to relocate to ensure their survival and continued operation. This situation underscores the urgent need for strategic approaches to overcoming uncertainty and ensuring the organizational resilience of displaced universities. Scenario planning is a crucial tool for sustainable development in higher education, particularly in crises such as war. The study explores potential scenarios for the sustainable development of displaced universities by considering key factors such as the risk of further territorial occupation and the level of integration with other educational institutions. The analysis reveals nine potential scenarios, each requiring distinct strategies such as relocation, digital transformation, security reinforcement, and academic program adjustments. Importantly, digitalization is identified as a critical component for ensuring the sustainability of displaced universities by enabling remote learning, virtual collaborations, and online resource management.
