The article analyses the conceptual and theoretical approaches and studies of the fundamental bases of formation and disclosure of the essence of views and concepts of the definition of ‘transformation.’ An analysis of economic literature by domestic and foreign scholars is carried out, which allows us to conclude that the definitions of ‘transformation’ are multidimensional and interdisciplinary. The article considers the evolutionary development of transformation processes associated with changes in economic relations and radical structural changes in national economies and their impact on functioning and development. It is found that the concept of transformation of economic space or socio-economic system, where its essential content as a socio-economic phenomenon is at the crossroads of scientific approaches and is considered a qualitative change and an integral part of the development of socio-economic systems. It is established that transformation is both a process of transformation and, as a result, an actualization of the inherent potential, state change, forms of functioning, and the process of system formation. The author identifies the characteristic features and various approaches, which are summarised in the following areas: transformation as a qualitative change in the economic system of a country, region, or population; transformation as a process of transformation and formation of a system; a stable state of the economic and any system; as a general form of development of economic systems. It is established that, by the understanding of conceptual approaches, the definition of ‘transformation’ can be presented as a set of determinants describing the economic processes of the national economy, a complex multi-level and multi-aspect process of transformation of the economic system, which involves the transition from one economic system to another, quantitative and qualitative changes in the components of the system and spheres of public life and has its characteristics. The analysis of scientific concepts of economic system development has allowed us to summarise several approaches to the study of the processes of transformation of regional system management: systemic, process, situational, and typology of transformation processes.
